Crazy Water

It shocks me that I have been writing this blog for little over 2 years and have yet to write an entry on Crazy Water. I guess I got wrapped up in trying new places and forgot all about this little jewel.

The restaurant is celebrating its 10th year anniversary this year and every time I eat there I think it is better than the last time. The quality, and imagination, of the food that can come out of such a teeny kitchen behind the bar is astounding. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. In fact, quite intimate since you do sit quite close to everyone. It actually made it quite fun when we went since we ended up having a nice conversation with the couple sitting next to us.

Sure they have their staples like the flat iron steak and crazy shrimp, but they also mix it up based on seasonally, and locally, available products. So instead of their traditional lemon parsley halibut which is also a staple, this time it was encrusted with mushrooms over a mascarpone-cauliflower puree. C. had the hangar steak complete with blue cheese fritters than melt all over. And the appetizer of the day was a buttermilk marinated chicken thigh over popcorn grits. Yummie yum!

And of course we had dessert. The chocolate ganache tart with salted caramel and caramel gelato was without a doubt, one of the best desserts I have ever had, anywhere.

At the end of the meal, I pulled out a City Tins coupon I had and C. said – “save it, it will give us an excuse to come back soon”!
