Bayview is becoming quite the hotspot for good restaurant options. We went with our friends C&JF on Friday and had a delightful meal at Pastiche. The menu is your typical french bistro fare and quite good. Appies like onion soup, frites, garlic shrimp, chevre tartlets, escargots, charcuterie and entrees like trout amandine, cassoulet, coq au vin, all sorts of braised meats, etc…all very good. C. had short ribs and I had slow cooked lamb. Everything is quite tasty. They have a quote from Julia Child on their site “You don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces – just good food from fresh ingredients”. I think this is a very accurate assessment of the food they serve. It is very true to french bistro fare. Nothing you would not expect. If you are looking for a more imaginative menu that will allow you to try new things you have never had before, Pastiche is not the place. But if you love traditional french food in a intimate setting without a lot of fanfare, Pastiche should be a place to try.
